I’m Julie, an illustrator and designer from Germany, currently based in Meanjin, Brisbane.
With a background in branding, I like to think about visuals strategically and how they can support a certain message. Illustration, on the other hand, has become a space for freedom that I can actively embrace and channel. I am forever and always inspired by everyday moments and finding beauty in the details around me. Through textures, colours and details hidden to the naked eye, I translate both observation and imagination freely into visual form. This way of expression naturally finds its way into my design work too, where the same sense of warmth, positivity and humanity can be used to create brands and experiences that feel inviting and memorable.
I am interested in people, the things that make us human, the emotions we share and how we connect. That is why I like creating work that feels human, has warmth, humour and imperfection.
I like to move between the analogue and digital, use animations and interactions to tell stories, and especially enjoy bringing different tools together to create experiences.
Why do I do what I do? Potentially because of what many people consider to be the meaning of life: human connection. My craft is my way of exploring and translating the human experience into something that can be shared with others, bringing a moment of joy or recognition.
